Al Gore in Chile: The former US Vice President and the Climate Reality Project will bring together global experts in Santiago

Washington, D.C. (MAY 20, 2026) – The Climate Reality Project, a nonprofit climate organization founded by former US Vice President Al Gore will gather in Santiago, Chile for the 63rd Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training. From July 9–11, 2026, advocates and leaders from across the country will gather to build skills, share strategies, and drive collective action toward a sustainable and climate-resilient future in Chile.

Chile stands at a pivotal moment in its energy transition. The nation has become a regional leader on clean energy and climate policy, harnessing its abundant solar and wind potential to power work and life for millions and passing landmark climate legislation to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

As Chile begins a new political chapter, its participation as one of 50 countries that joined a “coalition of the willing” to accelerate the phase-out of coal, oil, and gas during the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels in April 2026 shows that Chile can continue its international leadership in the energy transition while driving economic growth and protecting both the democratic institutions and precious ecosystems critical for climate progress. But sustained leadership from civil society will be critical to ensure momentum continues.

The Santiago training aims to prepare a new generation of Chilean leaders to meet this moment, providing advocates with the resources, tools, and network to help Chile accelerate the shift to affordable clean energy while strengthening democracy, safeguarding biodiversity, and advancing solutions that drive economic development.

“Over the past 20 years, I and our team at Climate Reality have trained tens of thousands of climate advocates around the world and have seen firsthand how sustained advocacy and grassroots organizing can drive transformational climate action,” said former US Vice President Al Gore. “While both climate policy and democracy face headwinds around the globe, the people of Chile have a unique chance to seize an incredible opportunity to strengthen the nation’s resilience, economic growth, and democracy by doubling down on the solutions to the climate crisis that are already supporting a more sustainable and equitable future.”

Participants will hear directly from Vice President Gore, political leaders, policy and science experts, and seasoned advocates about the latest climate science and solutions. Dynamic workshops will also help participants build the communications and advocacy skills to advance a just energy transition, strengthen democracy, and protect vital ecosystems. Additional speakers include:

  • Marcelo Mena, CEO, Global Methane Hub
  • Maisa Rojas, Climatologist; Former Minister of Environment of Chile
  • Tania Rheinen, Deputy Vice President, Oceana Chile
  • Ismaela Magliotto Quevedo, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Uno Punto Cinco
  • Ezio Costa Cordella, Executive Secretary, FIMA

By attending the training, participants join a global network of 4.5 million Climate Reality supporters from 196 countries and territories.
