Former US Vice President Al Gore and The Climate Reality Project to Mark 20 Years of Climate Leadership with Training Events in Three Global Regions and Grassroots Events Across the US
Washington, DC (February 18, 2025) – The Climate Reality Project, a nonprofit climate organization founded by former US Vice President Al Gore, will launch a year of programming to honor its 20th anniversary with major leadership trainings in three global regions and grassroots events across the US.
These global leadership trainings will take place in:
- North America: Nashville, US, May 2026
- Latin America: Santiago, Chile, July 2026
- Asia: Singapore, September 2026
Grassroots training events will also take place across the US in May.
Twenty years ago, the release of An Inconvenient Truth marked a turning point in public awareness of the climate crisis. Vice President Gore’s clear and stark warnings of the danger that a warming planet poses to the future of humanity inspired people from around the world to seek out ways to drive change. To harness the outpouring of grassroots support for climate action, Vice President Gore began hosting trainings to equip grassroots advocates with the skills and knowledge to become effective communicators for climate action. What began with 50 people in a barn on Vice President Gore’s family farm outside of Nashville, TN, has grown into The Climate Reality Project and a global network of 4.5 million supporters around the world.
This anniversary year features programming highlighting 20 years of Climate Reality’s impact, influence, and innovation, with three major leadership trainings to expand Climate Reality’s global reach and build momentum for climate action across continents and time zones. The series begins with a flagship US Training in Nashville from May 1–2. The Nashville training is a return to Climate Reality’s roots in Tennessee – and a reaffirmation of the organization’s 20-year commitment to meeting the moment on climate and speaking truth to power. The Nashville training also kicks off a nationwide grassroots experience with local half-day climate training events for advocates across the United States throughout the month of May.
These nationwide in-person Climate Reality trainings and events come at a pivotal moment for the United States. While the US has made incredible climate progress in the last two decades, renewed political will is now urgently needed across all levels of government. Climate denial, clean energy disinformation, and policies that block cost-saving clean energy deployments are threatening the momentum of a just transition toward the affordable, abundant clean energy solutions required for a livable future on Earth.
“At a time when climate progress and science are under attack, it’s fitting that we’re not only going back to our roots in Nashville, we’re going big by hosting training events across the country and in key regions of the world,” said former US Vice President Al Gore. “Two things are abundantly clear: Climate progress over the past 20 years has been remarkable but there has not been enough of it. In our 20th year, Climate Reality is focused on learning from both the successes and the challenges of the past 20 years so that we can mobilize effective leadership at all levels and across all sectors. We’re excited to invite the next generation of changemakers to meet this moment with us and help achieve a clean energy future.”
Attendees will be trained by Vice President Gore and other world-class experts and advocates on the science, solutions, and tools in our hands today to expand global climate action. The two-day leadership training in Nashville will feature live guest speakers. All events will include skill-building workshops, informative discussions, and networking centered on the most pressing issues facing the climate movement, from energy affordability to fossil fuel industry obstruction.
By completing the training in Nashville, attendees join the Climate Reality Leadership Corps and become central to Climate Reality’s global movement of over 4.5 million advocates, business leaders, elected officials, entrepreneurs, concerned citizens, and students from more than 196 countries and territories.
