Statement from Climate Reality President and CEO Phyllis Cuttino on Proposed EPA Power Plant Regulations

“We applaud the EPA for setting clear emissions caps for existing power sector infrastructure while giving plant operators the freedom and flexibility to chart a path to a modern power sector that works best for them.
“It is long past time for comprehensive modernization of the power sector. Since 1882, fossil fuels have been the dominant source of power in the United States – even as renewable energy generation has grown.
“There is no more time, no more excuses, no economic or environmental rationale for the old system. We need to accelerate the clean energy transition to help us stem the climate crisis, save money, protect human health -- particularly for marginalized communities most impacted, and create new jobs and economic opportunities.
“Today’s announcement is a critical step in our transition to a true net-zero economy for the US – but it’s not the end.
“We need to phase out all fossil fuel power plants as quickly as possible. End of story.”
