Statement from The Climate Reality Project President and CEO, Phyllis Cuttino on the Repeal of the Endangerment Finding

Yet again, the Trump Administration is defying logic and science showing its utter contempt for the wellbeing and safety of all Americans and our planet. By repealing the 2009 endangerment finding recognizing the danger of greenhouse gases and climate change, the Trump EPA betrays both its own mission to protect human health and the American people.

Last year, 23 extreme weather and climate disasters inflicted an estimated $115 billion in damage and took 276 lives across the US. Behind those numbers are real families, communities, and businesses, all forever transformed. For EPA to effectively claim that climate change poses no significant threat to our health and that US fossil fuel emissions play no meaningful part simply defies belief.

Today’s move will not unleash American industry or protect families from higher costs. Rather, it will fuel more destructive and costly storms, floods, and fires across our communities and ensure more Americans suffer.

We cannot afford to turn a blind eye to the crisis at hand. We must face this head-on and at The Climate Reality Project we’re working to reduce harmful emissions and accelerate the transition to cheap clean energy. The health of our families and the future of our planet depend on it.
