All Americans have the right to clean air

Semi Truck

Here’s the truth. The big diesel trucks hauling our food and freight are the biggest polluters on the road, filling the air with toxic chemicals like nitrogen oxides (NOx) and climate-changing greenhouse gases.

And for the 72 million Americans living close to freight routes – overwhelmingly people of color and poor families in frontline communities– this means breathing in chemicals that contribute to asthma, heart and lung disease, and other respiratory issues.

We believe all Americans have the right to clean air. Period.

Protecting our families - and especially frontline communities – from this deadly pollution means implementing stricter emission standards for these heavy trucks. It means encouraging companies to shift to electric and zero-emission vehicles. And it starts with setting more ambitious air pollution rules.

California has long been a leader here, setting more ambitious air pollution rules than the federal government and doing right by state residents. No surprise, other states have followed. But now there’s a chance the government may ignore decades-long precedent and deny California's ability to set strong emissions requirements.

This isn't just about California. It's about all of us and the ability of states to protect their people from fossil fuel pollution.

Take action. Tell EPA to approve the waivers requested by California for its truck emission regulations to help us all breathe easier.
