The Top Climate Videos of 2016

We’ve shared some incredible clips with you this year, telling stories of both exciting climate solutions as well as the desperate need for action all around the globe. As we look back on the many profound ups and downs for our movement over the last 12 months, below are five that we think were particularly impactful and representative of the year that was.

    Arctic Ice

Dwindling of Arctic's Oldest Ice (Since 1990)

Wow. Watch the Arctic’s oldest ice shrink over the last 25 years. Time-lapse video from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

In the last 25 years, we’ve seen thick Arctic ice melt drastically. In its place, thin ice that can’t withstand the summer warm-up has become the new normal. A lack of thick ice makes the Arctic particularly vulnerable to dramatic and possibly irreversible damage.

Using a combination of geothermal, solar, wind, and biomass energy for power, the village will grow its own food and create its own power. We can expect to see this test community, which will include 25 homes, up-and-running in 2017.

Tentree is a company that plants 10 trees for every item of clothing they sell. Starting out as five friends who simply love the outdoors, the company has gone on to plant more than 9 million trees in 12 countries. Companies like this are proof that profit and sustainability are far from mutually exclusive.

    Tesla’s Solar Roofs

Looking for a new roof that won’t cost a fortune and will save you money on your electric bill? Tesla's got you covered. Tesla’s new solar roof is cost-comparable to traditional roofing and, in fact, may eventually pay for itself when you factor in long-term home energy savings.

With So Many Solutions at Hand, It’s Time to Take Action.

Now that you've seen how climate change is impacting our planet today and some of the solutions that are available now, you know how important it is that we take action to stop the climate crisis. But US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated a list of oil industry insiders to serve in key cabinet positions responsible for the nation’s public lands, environment, and potentially even foreign policy. And we can’t trust them to put us or our health and environment first.

Add your name here to tell the Senate that we need leaders who’ll take us forward and work for a clean energy economy – not individuals who will allow corporations to pollute our air and water.

    Before You Go

But we can't do it without your help.
