    New York

    Capital Region, NY

The Capital Region, NY Chapter is a dedicated group of climate activists working in the Capital Region and the Northern Adirondack areas of New York State. Following the Atlanta training and the passage of New York State's landmark climate legislation, The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), the chapter began. Some of the founding members worked alongside fellow activists to push for passage of the CLCPA legislation. Energized by that success, the chapter went on to establish a broad mission -- to educate the public about climate science and solutions, build coalitions with other climate activists, and conduct issue advocacy campaigns in order to bring about the rapid and just implementation of economy-wide climate solutions at the local, state, and national levels, and the development of resiliency plans. Work at the local level includes education and outreach in the form of presentations and tabling events, as well as working with local governments to adopt or expand their participation in the state's Climate Smart Communities program. State level advocacy includes actively following the implementation progress of the CLCPA, fossil fuel divestment of NYS Pension Funds, opposing the build out of new fossil fuel infrastructure, and advocating for alternatives such as beneficial electrification and renewable energy.
