    Memphis and Mid-South

Chapter Description: The Climate Reality Project: Memphis and Mid-South TN Chapter formed after the Atlanta training, just before Earth Day 2019, and gained local media attention for achieving a robust Facebook presence of activism pushing a TVA clean energy campaign around the IRP process. They helped organize the Memphis climate strike in September 2019, following the lead of student organizers and have publicly presented for 24 Hours of Reality each year. Chapter members also participated in the 2020 Turn Out For Tomorrow campaign encouraging voter turnout. The Memphis and Mid-South chapter is part of the Tennessee Valley Energy Democracy Movement and co-sponsored the Compass Conference 2021: The New Green Economy and also co-sponsored Memphis Transit Equity Day Public Hearing 2021 with Sierra Club and MICAH as lead sponsors. The chapter continues to create awareness about the decision for local power company MLGW to either stay with TVA and create clean and just energy demands, or choose a new provider to create a more equitable energy future. Chapter members are actively supporting and building coalition with Memphis Community Against the Pipeline and all allies to stand up against the Byhalia Pipeline to protect the community in the direct path of the pipeline and keep the aquifer and drinking water safe. They are excited to kick off Our Climate Momentâ„¢ federal campaign in Memphis and for the newly formed Tennessee coalition with Nashville! This chapter is on a mission to discern best practices for clean energy and climate justice issues, building bridges for a healthy environment and community. We are all connected and our strength is people power. Join us!
