    Tacoma, WA

The Tacoma, WA Chapter was founded in November 2017 and includes dedicated climate advocates from Pierce County and around the South Puget Sound region who strive to view the climate crisis through a climate justice lens. Current chapter members recognize the critical need to work with local officials and community members to create and bolster strong climate plans in Pierce County and its cities. Such efforts are designed to strengthen or enact policies to slash our local carbon footprint, block permitting of dirty fossil fuel projects in the Port of Tacoma and throughout the county, and promote green energy and transportation. Other chapter member projects include a push to attain rights of nature for the Southern Resident Orcas through Legal Rights for the Salish Sea, an educational component centered on delivering Climate Reality presentations, and coalition building and community outreach. We are visible in our communities through events like the South Sound Sustainability Expo and the Sustainability Summit for South Sound Women in Business. The chapter is currently working to build membership, partner with local climate-friendly organizations, and offer more educational opportunities.
