Malika Yates believes a “simple act of kindness creates an endless ripple.” She is the founder of The Global Ripple Effect Project Inc., an environmental nonprofit. Through her environmental nonprofit, Malika distributes eco-friendly COVID kits, creates urban gardens, organizes cleanups, plants trees in marginalized communities, provides healthy food options to low-income communities, and more. As Elite Miss Delaware Earth 2019 and 2020, Malika participates in and organizes healthy food drives, tree plantings, and cleanups worldwide – she even has adopted a highway to clean up and is proud to have her name on the sign. She created an eco-education program to teach students and communities how to live eco-friendly, healthy, and sustainable lifestyles filled with kindness and a law that will provide equal environmental education. She helps a community in Zambia, Africa get clean drinking water and sold her belongings to take underserved students on an eco-educational field trip. For this work, she received the One in a Million Award. As a trained Climate Reality Leader, Malika was honored to be a mentor for the 2020 and 2021 Climate Reality global trainings. As chapter co-chair for The Climate Reality Project: Newark, Delaware Chapter, Malika was proud to help secure the passage of the New Castle County Climate Coalition legislation.
