Q. HOW DO I APPLY TO ATTEND THE UPCOMING CLIMATE REALITY LEADERSHIP TRAINING?

A. The application to attend the Seoul Climate Reality Leadership Training is now open. Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis. If you are accepted to attend the training, you will receive more information via email to confirm your spot.

Q. HOW MUCH DOES A TRAINING COST?

A. The Seoul Climate Reality Leadership Training is offered free of charge and The Climate Reality Project will provide some meals during the event. However, if selected to attend, you will need to arrange for your own travel, lodging, and meals that are not covered during the event.

Q. CAN MINORS ATTEND THE TRAINING?

A. Anyone aged 15 or older is eligible to apply to attend the training. If accepted to the training, any applicant under the age of 20 must be supervised and accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or adult chaperone. Both the minor and their chaperone must apply and be accepted into the program in order for the minor to attend the training. Climate Reality cannot provide any assistance with childcare. Due to limited space, only accepted applicants are allowed to attend the training.

Q. WHAT LANGUAGE WILL THIS TRAINING BE IN?

A. This training will take place in Korean and English, with simultaneous interpretation offered in both languages.

Q. WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN THIS TRAINING?

A. To join our training, you must apply and be accepted to our event, and then RSVP, which will confirm your attendance. By attending each day of our training with our founder and chairman, former US Vice President Al Gore, you will become a member of our Climate Reality Leadership Community.

Once you are trained, you will become a Climate Reality Leader and join the Climate Reality Leadership Community of over 46,500 activists from 190 countries who are fighting to solve the climate crisis. Climate Reality Leaders inspire action and change around the world.

Q. MY PARTNER OR FAMILY MEMBER WOULD LIKE TO TRAVEL WITH ME. CAN THEY ATTEND THE TRAINING?

A. If your partner or family member would like to attend the training with you, they must apply. Only individuals who are accepted into the program can attend the training. However, there is no limitation on who can travel with you. Please understand that the majority of the two days will be occupied with the training and that your attendance at the entire event is required in order to become a certified Climate Reality Leader.

Q. DO I NEED TO STAY FOR THE WHOLE TRAINING?

A. Anyone who is applying to the training must be able to commit to the full length of the training. You can expect the training to run from the morning of August 19 to the evening of August 20. An agenda will be sent to all accepted and confirmed participants.

Q. CAN I ATTEND THE TRAINING IF I LIVE IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY?

The Seoul Climate Reality Leadership Training is open to anyone ages 15 and up who is interested in learning about the climate crisis. However, this training will have a regional focus on issues specific to South Korea and will be hosted in the Korean and English languages.

Q. WHAT COVID-19 GUIDELINES WILL BE IN PLACE AT THE TRAINING?

A. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available during the training for those who wish to use them, and we ask that anyone who has recently tested positive for COVID-19 or is feeling ill not attend the training.

Q. WHAT IS THE ADDRESS OF THE TRAINING LOCATION AND WHERE SHOULD I STAY?

A. Training locations and accommodations vary by city. We’ll send an email with the address of the training location and accommodation recommendations to all accepted and confirmed participants so they can arrange and pay for their own travel and lodging.

Q. WHAT IS A CLIMATE ACTION?

A. Climate actions are any actions you take to help address the climate crisis. We encourage and support all kinds of climate action and focus our global campaign work into four topics which we feel are particularly important this century to slashing climate changing emissions and transitioning the fossil fuel systems poisoning our communities to clean energy. These four campaign areas are:

• Reducing Emissions
• Reforming Global Climate Finance
• Combatting Greenwashing
• United Nations Climate Change Conferences (COPs)

If we transition away from fossil fuels, and towards clean energy solutions, we can mitigate catastrophic climate change and ensure a safer, healthier, and happier life for all beings around the world. The Climate Reality Project will start you on your way to becoming involved with a suite of advocacy opportunities that help build the political will to drive change through education, mobilization, and organizing.

Q. AREN’T WE PRODUCING ADDITIONAL CO2 IN THE ATMOSPHERE BY FLYING OUT TO THE TRAINING?

A. As an international organization committed to fighting the climate crisis on a global scale, Climate Reality holds trainings in many different locations around the world so people everywhere can join us in working to solve the climate crisis. Climate Reality is aware that the trainings may be distant from some attendees’ homes and that event-related air travel is a contributor to carbon pollution. In addition to implementing an event sustainability strategy to reduce the emissions from the event, we measure event-related emissions (including air travel) and neutralize those emissions via verifiable carbon offsets. We have seen firsthand the value of in-person trainings and how the community grows from the connections that Climate Reality Leaders make during the training days. After the in-person training, attendees are invited to connect, share, and engage in an online platform that reduces or eliminates the need for any further long-distance travel in their work as Climate Reality Leaders.

Q. HOW DOES THE CLIMATE REALITY PROJECT ACCOUNT FOR EVENT-RELATED EMISSIONS?

A. In planning our events, Climate Reality employs sustainable event practices in accordance with the event industry’s leading standards: ISO 20121 and APEX/ASTM Environmentally Sustainable Meeting Standards. We also implement a comprehensive plan to divert as much waste as possible from the event to recycling centers and local compost facilities. Once onsite energy conservation and emission reduction strategies are exhausted, Climate Reality selects verifiable carbon offset projects to cover any remaining emissions impacts. By supporting these projects, we are able to offset and neutralize all event-related emissions, including those from air travel, energy use, vehicle use, etc.
