Sophia Powless

Intern for Climate Speakers Network

Sophia is the Climate Speakers Network intern. She is currently in the Climate & Society Master’s program at the Columbia Climate School. She graduated from Adelphi University where she received a B.A in Environmental Studies whilst playing on the college volleyball team. Sophia is wolf clan from the Onondaga Nation and grew up with a passion for Environmental and Indigenous issues specifically land rights, sovereignty, and environmental justice. She has been involved in organizing events that highlight Indigenous art, culture, and history. Prior to working for the Climate Reality Project, Sophia worked as a COVID-19 contact tracer as well as a substitute teacher and tutor at the Onondaga Nation School. In her free time, Sophia enjoys doing beadwork, drawing, baking, playing games, reading, and filling up her camera roll with pictures of trees and plants. She is excited to be a part of the Climate Reality Project team!
