Climate Reality Leadership Training in Rome - FAQs

The application to attend the Climate Reality Leadership Training is now open. Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis. If you are accepted to attend the training, you will receive more information via email to confirm your spot.

The Climate Reality Leadership Training is offered free of charge and The Climate Reality Project will provide some meals during the event. However, participants will need to arrange for your own travel, lodging, and meals that are not covered during the event. We’ll send an email with the training location and accommodation recommendations to all accepted and confirmed participants so they can arrange and pay for their own travel and lodging.

Unfortunately, Climate Reality is not able to offer scholarships to cover the cost of travel or lodging for attendees of the training.

Anyone aged 16 or older is eligible to apply to attend the training. Participants younger than 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone.

This training will be primarily conducted in English and Italian. Please note that sessions outside of the main ballroom may not all have simultaneous interpretation available. All materials furnished by Climate Reality will also be written in English and Italian.

The Climate Reality Leadership Training is open to anyone ages 16 and up who is interested in learning about the climate crisis. However, this training will have a focus on issues specific to Southern Europe and the Mediterranean region. Attendees are responsible for obtaining their own visa to visit Italy for the training if one is required.

Anyone who is applying to the training must be able to commit to the full length of the training. You can expect the training to run from the morning of June 28 to midday on June 30. An agenda will be sent to all accepted and confirmed participants.

If your partner or family member would like to attend the training with you, they must apply. Only individuals who are accepted into the program can attend the training. Please understand that the majority of the time will be occupied with the training and that your attendance at the entire event is required in order to become a certified Climate Reality Leader.

Training locations and accommodations vary by city. We’ll send an email with the address of the training location and accommodation recommendations to all accepted and confirmed participants so they can arrange and pay for their own travel and lodging.

By attending each day of our training with our founder and chairman, former US Vice President Al Gore, you will become a member of our Climate Reality Leadership Community.

Once you are a trained Climate Reality Leader, you’ll join a network nearly 50,000 advocates from 190 countries who are fighting to solve the climate crisis. Climate Reality Leaders inspire action and change around the world.

Climate actions are any actions you take to help address the climate crisis. We encourage and support all kinds of climate action and focus our global campaign work into four topics that we feel are particularly important this century to slashing emissions and transitioning the fossil fuel systems poisoning our communities to clean energy. These four campaign areas are:

• Reducing Emissions
• Reforming Global Climate Finance
• Combatting Greenwashing
• Strengthening International Cooperation on Climate

If we transition away from fossil fuels and towards clean energy solutions, we can mitigate catastrophic climate impacts and ensure a safer, healthier, and happier life for all beings around the world. The Climate Reality Project will start you on your way to becoming involved with a suite of advocacy opportunities that help build the political will to drive change through education, mobilization, and organizing.

As an international organization committed to fighting the climate crisis on a global scale, Climate Reality holds trainings in many different locations around the world so people everywhere can join us in working to solve the climate crisis. Climate Reality is aware that the trainings may be distant from some attendees’ homes and that event-related air travel is a contributor to carbon pollution. In addition to implementing an event sustainability strategy to reduce the emissions from the event, we measure event-related emissions (including air travel). We have seen firsthand the value of in-person trainings and how the community grows from the connections that Climate Reality Leaders make during the training days. After the in-person training, attendees are invited to connect, share, and engage in an online platform that reduces or eliminates the need for any further long-distance travel in their work as Climate Reality Leaders.

In planning our events, Climate Reality employs sustainable event practices in accordance with the event industry’s leading standards: ISO 20121 and APEX/ASTM Environmentally Sustainable Meeting Standards. We also implement a comprehensive plan to divert as much waste as possible from the event to recycling centers and local compost facilities. Once onsite energy conservation and emission reduction strategies are exhausted, Climate Reality selects verifiable carbon offset projects to cover any remaining emissions impacts. By supporting these projects, we are able to offset and neutralize all event-related emissions, including those from air travel, energy use, vehicle use, etc.

Una volta ricevuta la formazione come Climate Reality Leader, entrerai a far parte di una rete di quasi 50.000 attivisti di 190 paesi che stanno lottando per risolvere la crisi climatica. I Climate Reality Leader sono fonti d’ispirazione per le azioni e il cambiamento nel mondo.

Il termine azione per il clima indica ogni azione che contribuisce ad affrontare la crisi climatica. Promuoviamo e sosteniamo tutti i tipi di azioni per il clima. La nostra campagna globale è incentrata su quattro tematiche che riteniamo particolarmente importanti in questo secolo per ridurre le emissioni e passare dai combustibili fossili, che stanno avvelenando le nostre comunità, all’energia pulita. Abbiamo toccato con mano il valore dei training in presenza e abbiamo visto come la community cresca grazie ai contatti nati tra i Climate Reality Leader durante l’evento. Dopo il training in presenza, i partecipanti saranno invitati a mettersi in contatto, condividere e collaborare su una piattaforma online che riduce o elimina la necessità di ulteriori, lunghi viaggi nell’attività di Climate Reality Leader.

Nel programmare gli eventi, Climate Reality adotta pratiche sostenibili in linea con i principali standard del settore: ISO 20121 e APEX/ASTM Environmentally Sustainable Meeting Standards. Adottiamo inoltre un piano completo per inviare la maggior quantità possibile di rifiuti dall’evento ai centri di riciclo e alle strutture di compostaggio locali. Una volta esaurite le strategie di risparmio energetico e di riduzione delle emissioni, Climate Reality seleziona progetti verificabili di compensazione della CO2 per coprire gli eventuali impatti delle emissioni residue. Sostenendo questi progetti, riusciamo a compensare e a neutralizzare tutte le emissioni legate all’evento, comprese quelle generate dai viaggi in aereo, dall’uso dell’energia, dall’uso dei veicoli, ecc.
