André Aranha Corrêa do Lago entered his diplomatic career in 1982. He has worked on sustainable development issues since 2001. He was director of the Department of Energy (2008-2011) and the Department of Environment (2011-2013), during which time he was Brazil's chief negotiator for climate change (2011-2013) for Rio+20 (2011-2012). He was ambassador to Japan (2013-2018) and India (2018-2023). He served as Secretary of Climate, Energy, and Environment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2023-2025). He currently holds the position of president-designate for the 30th Conferences of the Parties (COP 30) of the UNFCCC.
