Dr. Thelma Krug
Former Senior Researcher, National Institute for Space Research (INPE)
Thelma Krug is a former senior researcher at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in Brazil. She was a member of the IPCC Bureau from 2002 until July of this year and was the panel’s vice-chair from 2015-2023. She presently chairs the steering committee of the Global Climate Observation System under the World Meteorological Organization. She was deputy national secretary at the Secretary on Policies and Programs of S&T at the Ministry of Science and Technology, national secretary at the Secretary on Climate Change and Environmental Quality from the Ministry of the Environment (MMA), and director of the Department on Policies to Prevent and Combat Deforestation (MMA). She has represented Brazil in the UNFCCC negotiations for more than 10 years.
