Claudio Orrego
Governor, Regional Government of Santiago
Claudio Orrego Larraín is a lawyer and holds a bachelor’s degree in legal sciences from the Catholic University of Chile and a master of public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He began his political career in 1996 as a councilman in Peñalolén, and later, in 2000, was appointed minister of housing and of national assets by President Ricardo Lagos. In 2004, he became the mayor of Peñalolén. A decade later, he was entrusted with the role of intendant of the Metropolitan Region, where he remained in office for the four years of the administration. He became the first elected governor of the Santiago Metropolitan Region in 2021 and is currently serving his second term in office, which will run until 2028.
