Christian Matamala Irribarra

Christian Matamala Irribarra is a socio-environmental activist with more than 36 years of experience advancing sustainability, education, and community leadership initiatives across Latin America. He became a Climate Reality Leader in 2022 and has contributed to projects in more than 15 countries, guided by the belief that "learning is meant to be shared." He currently serves as Latin America representative and ambassador for the Henrique Amaral Institute where he promotes human development, mentorship, and leadership capacity building through a holistic approach, as well as serves as Hispanic American representative to the Global Council of Laudato Si’ Movement. His work focuses on helping build more just and resilient societies by empowering individuals to create meaningful change within their communities. Christian is an active member and collaborator of several international networks and organizations dedicated to climate action, circular economy, education, and socio-environmental justice, including Instituto Basura Cero Chile, Laudato Si' Movement, Climate Fresk, the Sustainable Campuses Network, and the Civil Society Mechanism for Latin America and the Caribbean promoted by ECLAC. Christian remains an active member of the Climate Reality network for both the Brazil and Latin American branch through his participation in working groups and other network mobilization spaces.
