Itzel Morales
Branch Manager, The Climate Reality Project Latin America
Itzel Morales Lagunes has worked tirelessly, for more than a decade, to strengthen climate action in Latin America. Since December 2024, she has led The Climate Reality Project Latin America office. Her appointment as branch manager is the result of eight years of effort and tireless work. Throughout all this time, Itzel Morales managed to consolidate a network of more than 5,600 Climate Reality Leaders from 22 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America, accompanying and supporting many of them in their growth as leaders.
A biochemical engineer with a master's degree in climate change from Heriot-Watt University, Itzel has transcended borders in the search for innovative solutions. She was a Hubert H. Humphrey Program Fellow at the University of California, Davis, a consultant for the US Forest Service's International Seminar on Climate Change, and a facilitator in workshops at the Center for Story-Based Strategy in Costa Rica and the US.
Her leadership has been reflected in key projects such as Operación COP, an initiative present in 10 Latin American countries; Multiply for Climate in Chile; and Invest on the Planet, a regional programme supported by UNEP and supported by TikTok. Convinced that change is only possible through collective work, she has dedicated her career to training and mobilizing new generations committed to climate justice. Recognized with the Youth Award of the Government of Campeche, her story has been captured in “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power,” former US Vice President Al Gore's book highlighting those who have dedicated their lives to combating the climate crisis.
For Itzel, change is not a threat, but an opportunity for all those who dare to imagine a better world. Under this same premise, Itzel works every day to transform the present in which we live and build a fairer, more sustainable future full of opportunities for generations to come
