Jane Meriwas
Executive Director, Samburu Women Trust; National Convener, Indigenous Women Council
Jane Naini Meriwas HSC, an Indigenous woman from the Samburu People of Kenya, is the executive director of Samburu Women Trust, a community development practitioner, feminist, mentor, and women’s human rights defender for more than 20 years, advancing women and girls rights among Indigenous communities, at policy development, governance, and implementation. She is also the national convener of Indigenous Women Council East Africa, bring onboard pastoralists, hunter-gathering, fisher folks, women with disability, and adolescent girls for our collective voices. In 2019, she received the Women Impact Award, in 2020 she was awarded the Inclusion Award, and in 2023 she was awarded the head of state’s Commendation (HSC) by the president of Kenya for championing Indigenous women voices.
