Raya Ahmed Famau
Executive Director, Lamu Women’s Alliance, Board Member, Save Lamu
Raya Famau is a climate justice defender from Lamu, holds Bachelor of Science in development studies, a diploma in community development, and a certificate in community nutrition, and is also the founder of Lamu Women Alliance, which is a consortium of 13 women-led organizations in Lamu County, Kenya, championing climate justice, women’s rights including gender-based violence, girl child education, women’s land rights, livelihoods, and social justice issues. She also serves as a board member for Save Lamu, who directly campaigned against coal power plants. In 2019, she was awarded the Lamu County Mashujaa, by Kenya President Uhuru Kenyata, as well as the Shujaa Female Activist of the Year Award by MUHURI/Coast Women’s Magazine.
