Communications Lead, The Climate Reality Project Latin America

Verónica Lugo has a degree in Communication Sciences from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, with a specialization in Audiovisual Production. Throughout her career, she has held various roles in renowned media outlets, such as screenwriter, reporter, broadcaster, content creator, editor and editorial coordinator at Canal 22, Infobae, GQ Magazine, Chilango and Imagen Digital. She is an expert in SEO, fact-checking and data journalism. 
 
In March 2022, her career took a turn when she took the position of Content Manager at The Climate Reality Project Latin America. Her outstanding work on the UNEP-backed Invest on the Planet programme supported by TikTok led her to become Director of Communications in September 2023. This project rescued the work of different leaders in the region committed to reducing the gap in access to renewable energy in vulnerable communities, promoting climate justice, defense of the territory, food security, mobility, among others. 
 
Verónica has played a fundamental role in Operación COP, an initiative that for three years trained more than 120 young people from 10 Latin American countries in climate science and diplomacy, giving their perspectives and visions a space at the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. 
 
Key campaigns she has led include Ojos en la COP and Nuestro Desafío Común (NDCs), the latter of which is supported by CAN and CANLA, which seeks to educate, train and sensitize local leaders and citizens, encouraging them to actively participate in the regional update of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), scheduled for 2025. 
 
Verónica has diplomas in Project Management and Marketing Strategies, which has allowed her to manage projects with a strategic approach. Her work is characterized by the creation of critical content and the mobilization of audiences towards action, always with the vision of a more sustainable future where everyone fits.
