Wanjira Mathai

Wanjira Mathai is the managing director for Africa and Global Partnerships at the World Resources Institute (WRI), championing climate and development advocacy. She led the Green Belt Movement founded by her mother, Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai, and is the chair of the Wangari Maathai Foundation (WMF). Wanjira also serves on the Clean Cooking Alliance Leadership Council and is a member of the High-Level Group of the Africa-Europe Foundation and the European Climate Foundation Advisory Council. Wanjira is one of a few Six Seconds EQ Practitioners in Kenya. Named among Time’s 100 Most Influential African Women, Wanjira continues to elevate issues of climate change, youth leadership, clean energy, and restoration.
