Strengthen methane regulations

Natural Gas Power Plant at Water Resevoir

Trapping more than 80 times more heat than carbon dioxide over the first 20 years after it reaches our atmosphere, methane is one of the most potent greenhouse gases that contribute to the climate crisis. As one of the largest global emitters of methane, the United States has a responsibility to quickly reduce emissions to mitigate the worst of the effects of climate change.

To no one’s surprise, the oil and gas industry is a major player in methane emissions. For too long fossil fuel giants have been allowed to pollute our air and put profits over people – especially Black, Latino, and Native American residents who are more likely to live near methane super emitters.

We have the power to change that.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing tighter emissions regulations by expanding the 2021 methane rule. The new rule is estimated to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas industry by 87% below 2005 levels by the end of this decade.

Fossil fuel interests are no doubt going to fight tooth and nail to try to bury these new regulations. We can’t let them win. Use your voice to tell the EPA to implement the strongest possible safeguards to reduce methane emissions and support our most vulnerable communities.
