G20 Climate Scorecards
TRACKING PROGRESS IN LEADING ECONOMIES
The countries and coalitions that make up the Group of Twenty (G20) produce the vast majority of climate-changing emissions, thanks to their power-intensive economies and large populations.
How far and fast they go to slash emissions and transition to clean energy will effectively make or break global efforts to stop rising temperatures.
The scorecards below track where each G20 country and coalition stands in five areas critical to this effort and a livable future for the planet.
- Economy-wide emissions reductions that can keep warming to 1.5 degrees C.
- Real plans to phase out fossil fuels in all sectors.
- Ending funding for fossil fuels at home and abroad.
- Increasing support for climate finance in recent years and indicators the country plans to continue.
- New national climate action plans – known as “nationally determined contributions” or NDCs – that ensure a just transition to clean energy.
We continue to update scorecards as country commitments evolve and new information becomes available. For more information on how we scored each country/category, please refer to our methodology.
