Al Gore And The Climate Reality Project To Train New Activists In Mexico City

SHARE

Mexico City (January 8, 2018) – The Climate Reality Project – Mexico announced today that the organization will hold its 37th Climate Reality Leadership Corps activist training in Mexico City from March 21-23, 2018. This is the second time that former US Vice President and Climate Reality Founder and Chairman Al Gore and The Climate Reality Project have come to Mexico to lead this intensive three-day education and advocacy training. The application period to join the Mexico City training is now open.

“Mexico has long been a climate champion and global leader when it comes to climate action,” said Al Gore. “In today’s increasingly polarized political world, the people and government of Mexico demonstrate a unity of purpose in addressing the climate crisis. I look forward to meeting and hearing from some of the inspiring activists and individuals driving momentum in Mexico City and throughout the country.”

Al Gore and renowned climate scientists and communicators will give participants the knowledge and tools to build public awareness of the challenges posed by global climate change, share the good news about the practical solutions in our hands today, and strengthen public support for leaders at all levels of society taking action. Trainees will also learn how to give the presentation made famous by the Oscar-winning film An Inconvenient Truth and seen in the recent follow-up film An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power.

Because of the climate crisis, Mexico faces increasingly powerful storms, longer droughts, and dangerous floods, among other impacts. Without urgent action to reduce the fossil fuel emissions driving these changes, Mexico can expect these trends to continue or become even more severe, potentially threatening the country's food and water security.

The good news is the nation is working hard to take steps to combat the climate crisis: Mexico was the first developing country to create a comprehensive climate change law, and nearly three quarters of Mexicans agree that climate change is a major threat to their country.

Climate Reality has trained more than 13,500 activists working in over 140 countries. Recent trainings have been held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Seattle, Washington; Denver, Colorado; Shenzhen, China; Manila, Philippines; Miami, Florida; Toronto, Canada; New Delhi, India; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
