New York City, NY (April 2024) – Yesterday, the founder and chairman of The Climate Reality Project, former US Vice President Al Gore, presented the Alfredo Sirkis Memorial Green Ring Award to Climate Reality Leader Dr. Sandy Field at the end of a successful 55th Climate Reality Leadership Corps training in New York City.

The award honors Climate Reality Leaders who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to climate activism and education. Trained in Pittsburgh in 2017, Dr. Field founded Save Our Susquehanna, an organization raising health and environmental concerns about proposed plastics facilities. She also served as the chair of the Susquehanna Valley PA Climate Reality chapter and has been a tireless advocate for climate awareness and action.

Dr. Field led a successful effort to oppose the proposed Renovo Energy Center and delay plans for an Encina chemical recycling facility, showcasing her ability to mobilize her community and effect positive environmental change. Her efforts to foster collaboration among climate action groups across Pennsylvania have been instrumental in strengthening the state's climate movement.

"Dr. Sandy Field embodies what it means to be a Climate Reality Leader, and we are thrilled to honor her with the Alfredo Sirkis Memorial Green Ring Award," said Phyllis Cuttino, president and CEO of The Climate Reality Project. "Her exceptional efforts and advocacy in Pennsylvania have played a critical role in empowering the local community to take action against climate change and to protect public health and the environment. Dr, Field’s leadership and dedication have inspired a broader movement for environmental stewardship and sustainability across the state."

The 55th Climate Reality Leadership Corps training in New York City convened attendees from across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic to hear from leading names in climate justice, finance, communications, and policy. The event equipped attendees with the tools, knowledge, and networks needed to be effective advocates for climate action and a just transition at the community, state, and national levels.

Training topics focused on the critical financial reforms needed for a just and fair shift from fossil fuels to clean energy, the pursuit of climate justice, strategies and incentives to build resilient communities through clean energy and green jobs, and misinformation efforts by the fossil fuel industry that threaten or delay climate action.

The Climate Reality Project aims to recruit, train, and mobilize passionate climate advocates from across the region. They join a global network of more than 3.5 million people who have either attended a training, taken action through one of Climate Reality’s campaigns, or are members of its 11 global branches or US chapters.
