Washington, DC (October 24, 2021) – Former US Vice President Al Gore presented the Alfredo Sirkis Memorial Green Ring Award to environmental correspondent Shooka Bidarian at the 48th Climate Reality Leadership Corps Global Training, a virtual event to provide attendees with the practical skills and knowledge to build an equitable and inclusive movement for climate action and climate justice.

The award honors Climate Reality Leaders who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to their roles as climate communicators and activists. Since becoming a Climate Reality Leader in 2016, Shooka has helped launch a daily news show on Manoto TV, a Farsi-speaking television network, with a dedicated segment on local and global environmental issues. She also introduced Climate Reality’s 100% Committed campaign in Europe and has mentored countless attendees at the organization’s training events. In addition to this, Shooka has conducted Climate Reality’s Truth in 10 presentations to many audiences around the world, from small community groups to parliamentary delegates.

Previously called the Green Ring Award, the Alfredo Sirkis Memorial Green Ring Award was recently renamed to honor the life and legacy of former Brazil branch director and climate champion Alfredo Sirkis, who passed away last year. His family honored his request that he be laid to rest wearing his Climate Reality green ring pin.

“We’re delighted to honor Shooka with the Alfredo Sirkis Memorial Green Ring Award,” said Ken Berlin, president and CEO of The Climate Reality Project. “Through her work on Manoto TV and the 100% Committed campaign, Shooka embodies what it means to be a Climate Reality Leader, raising public awareness and strengthening public will to find solutions to address the climate crisis once and for all.”

The Climate Reality Leadership Corps Global Training is the 48th Climate Reality Leadership Corps training. Through live, pre-scheduled, and on-demand sessions, Climate Reality’s virtual global training will educate participants about the science behind the climate crisis and highlight the practical solutions in our hands today. Participants will learn directly from scientists, experts, Indigenous leaders, and grassroots organizers and come away from the training with proven strategies to effectively mobilize their communities in the fight for a just and sustainable future.

Upon completion of the program, participants will join Climate Reality’s diverse global network of more than 37,000 activists around the world, including business leaders, elected officials, entrepreneurs, students, teachers, doctors, and everybody in between, all of whom are dedicated to working together to build public awareness of the global climate crisis, share the good news about the practical solutions in our hands today, and strengthen public support for leaders at all levels of society who are committed to climate action.

Climate Reality will hold its global virtual training from October 16-24, 2021. For more information about the Climate Reality Leadership Corps program, and to learn how to participate in the next training, please visit: https://www.climaterealityproject.org/training.
