“We commend President Obama’s everlasting commitment to combat climate change. Under his leadership over the past eight years we have made great strides towards a clean energy future.
The solutions are here and now. Renewable energy is more cost-competitive than it has ever before. We have reduced our dependence on fossil fuels, cut carbon pollution on a worldwide scale and ultimately joined the global community in a bold and historic international agreement to end the climate crisis. We have made tremendous progress and could not have done it without the help and support of this administration.
However, our work is not over. As we look ahead, we must ensure that as a country the United States continues its leadership in combating the climate crisis. That we accelerate our transition away from carbon-intensive fossil fuels and support the growth and investment in the clean energy economy. That we ensure that the national commitments made at COP21 are scaled-up and fulfilled. That we will continue to cooperatively pursue solutions to the climate crisis with the global community.
President Obama and this Administration have laid a strong foundation and succeeded in bringing the climate crisis to the forefront of the global consciousness. It is time to take the next step forward and begin working towards a better tomorrow.”
