Washington, DC (July 13, 2021) –The Climate Reality Project is proud to announce Fredrick A. Davie, formerly executive vice president of the Union Theological Seminary for a decade, has joined the organization’s Board of Directors.

As a member of Climate Reality’s board, Mr. Davie will help steer Climate Reality’s ongoing work to build a diverse, inclusive movement for climate action and advocate for bold and just clean energy solutions to the climate crisis.

Mr. Davie is now senior strategic advisor at Union and IFYC. In his previous role as executive vice president of the Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York, he acted as the organization’s chief administrative officer and advised the president on strategic planning, institutional advancement, and vision implementation. He has also served as an administrative liaison, coordinating all efforts of executive office staff and senior staff in relation to the president. This month, Davie is stepping down to assume part-time roles as senior strategic advisor to the president at Union Theological Seminary and senior advisor for racial equity programs at IFYC.

Davie’s decades of leadership experience on critical public policy and social issues has spanned both the public and private sectors. He served as a program officer at the Ford Foundation, focusing on reducing rates of juvenile incarceration and recidivism; chair of the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB), an agency with civilian oversight of the New York Police Department; a member of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s New York City Racial Justice Commission; and Senator Charles Schumer’s appointee to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, a federal body that advises the White House, Congress and the State Department on religious freedom abroad.

Mr. Davie was also a key member of President Barack Obama’s transition team, performing agency reviews for faith-based and community initiatives. Following his service on the transition team, President Obama appointed Mr. Davie to the White House Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partners, where he provided counsel to help foster effective partnerships between government and local community and faith organizations.

Mr. Davie has also held several public administration roles for the City of New York, including deputy borough president of Manhattan, chief of staff to the deputy mayor for community and public affairs, and chief of staff to the president of the NYC Board of Education.

“I am thrilled to welcome Fred Davie to Climate Reality’s Board of Directors,” said Al Gore. “Throughout his career as a faith leader, social justice advocate, and public policy expert, Fred has cultivated powerful and effective partnerships between government and policy leaders, faith communities, and grassroots advocates. His leadership, deep expertise, and perspective will be critical as Climate Reality continues our work to accelerate a just clean energy transition that benefits all people.”

“The work of combating the climate crisis is some of the most important in our history. I am honored to join The Climate Reality Project in its work to build an intersectional movement for climate action that includes and empowers all people,” said Davie.
