Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (June 2025) – The Climate Reality Project, a nonprofit climate organization founded by former US Vice President Al Gore, will host a major in-person training event in Rio de Janeiro from 15–17 August. It is the 60th Climate Reality Leadership Corps training to take place since Climate Reality’s formation in 2006.

The Rio training is the third stop on the organization’s REALITY® Tour of trainings and events to build the political will, public momentum, and ambition for bold global climate action leading up to COP 30 in Brazil. The tour began in Paris in March, followed by a training in Nairobi in June, and will continue to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia later in 2025. Alongside in-person events throughout the year, Climate Reality is giving global audiences access to exclusive training content on a new online platform, including Vice President Gore’s iconic climate presentation.

Coming just months before critical COP 30 climate talks in Belém, the training will prepare a new wave of Brazilian leaders to confront the climate crisis and work for a just and sustainable future. Participants will hear the latest climate science and build the storytelling and organizing skills to advance a just energy transition that addresses both environmental and social challenges.

With three days of dynamic presentations, workshops, and opportunities to connect, the training will emphasize building community resilience in the face of climate impacts, focusing on local climate solutions that empower vulnerable populations. The training will also explore strategies for financing a sustainable future through inclusive investment and equitable climate action, ensuring that the shift toward clean energy benefits all communities.

Participants will hear directly from Vice President Gore on climate impacts and solutions, learn how to effectively advocate for change, and connect with fellow climate activists. They will also learn from leaders in the field, including Phyllis Cuttino, president and CEO of The Climate Reality Project; Guilherme Syrkis, executive director of Brazil Climate Center; Kimberly dos Santos Silva, regional director for the Amazon at Palmares Lab; and Tasso Azevedo, founder and general coordinator of MapBiomas.

“Brazil stands at the beating heart of the global struggle to confront the climate crisis. The threats are not abstract in Brazil, as devastating heat waves, droughts, fires, and catastrophic floods continue to put lives and livelihoods at ever-increasing risk,” said former US Vice President Al Gore. “But Brazil can also once again be at the forefront of solutions to the climate crisis. After all, Brazil hosted the Earth Summit of 1992 in Rio that launched the global movement to solve the world’s climate crisis. That’s why Climate Reality’s training in Rio aims to not only inform but inspire and empower leaders from across Brazil to lead urgent action in their communities and on the world stage.”

Attendees will join the global Climate Reality movement of over 3.8 million supporters worldwide, consisting of climate advocates, business leaders, elected officials, entrepreneurs, concerned citizens, and students dedicated to taking the lead on climate action.

Applications for the Rio Climate Reality Leadership Corps training are now open! Visit the site to find out more and apply. The training will be conducted in Brazilian Portuguese and English, with simultaneous translation available for some sessions.

Application closes July 6.
