Statement On Justice & Accountability

SHARE

“The verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, caps an emotional and traumatic year for so many around the country. We send our deepest condolences to the family of George Floyd, who should be with us today.

“During the course of this trial, the nation relived the pain of last summer, while just a few miles away, new wounds were inflicted with the killing of Daunte Wright. We especially recognize the pain, exhaustion, and fatigue that millions of Black Americans are feeling, and we stand in solidarity with you today and every day.

“Accountability is where the path to justice begins. While the Chauvin verdict brings accountability, it does not bring justice. This verdict will not end the scourge of police brutality or bring back the lives of George Floyd, Daunte Wright, Breonna Taylor, and countless others lost to systemic racism. We hope today’s verdict is a clear step toward recognizing and dismantling the systems of oppression that harm people of color, including the inexcusable environmental racism that threatens the health, safety, and opportunity of communities across the country.

“The road towards a more just, equitable, and sustainable future is long and uneven. Climate Reality remains committed to standing with our partners, colleagues, supporters, employees, and friends in the fight against racial and environmental injustice. Our goals are one in the same – creating an equal, safe, and healthy future for all.”
