Statement from Ken Berlin, President and CEO of The Climate Reality Project, on the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

“The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act marks a historic investment in America’s national infrastructure and is a significant step towards building a stronger, more resilient nation, especially as we confront the reality of the climate crisis.

“This bill comes on the heels the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report, a clarion call for urgent, unprecedented action to prevent faster, more destructive climate deterioration and fully transition away from fossil fuels. While this bill is an important step forward for our country, it cannot be the only policy intervention to meaningfully address the climate crisis and the racial and economic injustice it exacerbates. Congress’s budget resolution must squarely and boldly address these intersecting crises with clean energy tax incentives, a clean electricity standard, and trillions of dollars in funding that prioritizes the needs of frontline communities and communities of color. We look forward to working with lawmakers to make sure we get this right and ensure that the national budget includes the robust suite of climate provisions this crisis demands.”
