Statement from Phyllis Cuttino, President and CEO of The Climate Reality Project on the Passage of the Senate Majority’s Budget Reconciliation Bill

The Senate majority’s budget bill is a terrible deal for America.

Families across the country are struggling with the cost of living. Energy demand is exploding. Costly, climate-fueled storms, fires, and floods are threatening communities from coast to coast.

In the face of these challenges, the Senate majority has rushed to pass a deeply unpopular bill that only benefits billionaires and the “oiligarchy” of wealthy fossil fuel companies.

Meanwhile, working families, rural hospitals, and America’s fast-growing clean energy sector will pay the price.

By effectively repealing popular clean energy incentives, this bill will drive up electricity bills nationwide and halt many wind and solar projects critical to meeting exploding energy demand. It will chill American competitiveness in the growing clean energy economy and increase the climate pollution threatening our health, wellbeing and the planet. The American people never asked for this.

This huge, ugly bill is a betrayal of millions today and generations to come. The bill now moves to the House and at Climate Reality, we’re calling on all Americans to urge their representatives to vote “No” on this destructive bill.
