Within a year of completing the training with the Climate Reality Leadership Corps, you are required to perform 10 “Acts of Leadership.” Acts of Leadership come in a variety of forms and can be completed in your local community. Q. AREN’T WE PRODUCING ADDITIONAL CO2 IN THE ATMOSPHERE BY FLYING OUT TO THE TRAINING?

    A. As an international organization committed to fighting the climate crisis on a global scale, Climate Reality holds trainings in many different locations around the world so people everywhere can join us in working to solve the climate crisis. Climate Reality is aware that the trainings may be distant from some attendees’ homes and that event-related air travel is a contributor to carbon pollution. In addition to implementing an event sustainability strategy to reduce the emissions from the event, we measure event-related emissions (including air travel) and neutralize those emissions via verifiable carbon offsets. We have seen firsthand the value of in-person trainings and how the community grows from the connections that Climate Reality Leaders make during the training days. After the in-person training, attendees are invited to connect, share, and engage in an online platform that reduces or eliminates the need for any further long-distance travel in their work as Climate Reality Leaders.

    Q. HOW DOES THE CLIMATE REALITY PROJECT ACCOUNT FOR EVENT-RELATED EMISSIONS?

    A. In planning our events, Climate Reality employs sustainable event practices in accordance with the event industry’s leading standards: ISO 20121 and APEX/ASTM Environmentally Sustainable Meeting Standards. We also implement a comprehensive plan to divert as much waste as possible from the event to recycling centers and local compost facilities. Once onsite energy conservation and emission reduction strategies are exhausted, Climate Reality selects verifiable carbon offset projects to cover any remaining emissions impacts. By supporting these projects, we are able to offset and neutralize all event-related emissions, including those from air travel, energy use, vehicle use, etc.

HOW MUCH DOES THE VIRTUAL US TRAINING COST?

There is no fee to participate in the training.

Instead, trainees are expected to complete 10 Acts of Leadership within one year of the training. An Act of Leadership is an action that spreads awareness, drives change, or supports solutions to the climate crisis. These activities could include – but are not limited to – presentations in your community, media outreach, advocacy, and holding or attending events. Trainees will have the opportunity to complete qualifying activities during the training. Trainees will also be required to sign an agreement to this commitment prior to the training.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VIRTUAL US TRAINING?

Trainees must be at least 13 years of age and committed to completing all the training components to be eligible to participate in the virtual event. The content of this training is tailored to those who will be volunteering to work on climate issues in the United States.

We are planning two additional trainings later this year: a virtual Latin America training in July and a virtual global training in October. To ensure trainees get the most out of their experience, we encourage them to register for a training that is focused on their geographic region.

Click here to register for the virtual US training.

Click here to be notified when the virtual Latin America registration opens.

Click here to be notified when the virtual Global training registration opens.

Individuals who are already trained Climate Reality Leaders are welcome to register; however, we do encourage those who have already been trained as Climate Reality Leaders to apply to serve as mentors. To request the mentor application, please send an email to mentors@climatereality.com.

HOW CAN MINORS PARTICIPATE IN THE TRAINING?

Trainees must be at least 13 years of age and at least the age of majority in their country if they currently reside outside of the United States to be eligible to participate in the training and become a member of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps. Trainees between the ages of 13-18 require permission from a parent or legal guardian. Trainees under the age of 18 will be asked to provide this permission a bit later upon accessing the training platform.

DO I NEED TO PARTICIPATE FOR THE WHOLE TRAINING?

Anyone who registers for the Climate Reality Leadership Corps training must be able to commit to completing the required training components. Required components will be clearly marked, and trainees will be able to track their own progress. We estimate the training will take 14 hours to complete, but most learning can be done at a trainee’s convenience over the span of two weeks.

WHAT TECHNOLOGY DO I NEED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VIRTUAL US TRAINING?

The training will be hosted on a web-based platform and will be accessible from any internet-enabled device: computer, tablet, mobile device, etc. Some sessions will take place on Zoom, so trainees will need access to a device with a working microphone and camera. As the training is web-based, trainees will need access to a reliable, high-speed internet connection.

I DO NOT HAVE A RELIABLE INTERNET CONNECTION AT HOME. HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?

Some governments, organizations, and internet providers offer free or reduced-price Wi-Fi service. Please click here for a compilation of some of these programs and other internet connection options.

    WILL TRANSLATION SERVICES BE AVAILABLE?

All training programming will be provided in English.

    WILL CLOSED CAPTIONING BE AVAILABLE?

Yes, closed captioning will be available. Please email training@climatereality.com with any other accessibility questions.
