The Human Impact of Climate Change: Personal Stories from Australia

SHARE

Hosted by Al Gore and The Climate Reality Project, "24 Hours of Reality: The Cost of Carbon" highlights the impacts of climate change in Australia due to global carbon pollution. Flooding on the Sunshine Coast causes the evacuation of thousands of people, including hospital patients. Extreme heat waves cause the deaths of thousands of flying foxes -- which are the canaries in the global warming coalmine and testify to the impacts of extreme heat on biodiversity. The Angry Summer saw wildfires blaze through New South Wales, not only destroying homes in their path, but leaving behind myriad public health problems for Australians. Heat, flood and fire, and increasing health risks: all are on the rise because of global warming.

24 Hours of Reality: The #CostOfCarbon traveled across six continents and the poles, identifying the specific costs we're paying for carbon pollution. Celebrities, scientists, economists, and other experts joined former Vice President Al Gore and Climate Reality President and CEO Maggie L. Fox to explore the diverse impacts climate change is having around the world.
