Training Programming

The complete training schedule is still in development, but confirmed sessions so far include:

Live Broadcasts

BROADCAST 1 – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18 
Time: 1:00 – 2:30 PM ET  

Former Vice President Al Gore kicks of this first broadcast with his legendary presentation, offering viewers the latest on climate science, impacts, and solutions across the United States. 

BROADCAST 2 – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19 
Time: 1:00 – 2:30 PM ET  

Broadcast two starts with an introduction to The Climate Reality Project from President and CEO Phyllis Cuttino. Then, hear from celebrated community leaders, including Reverend William Barber II, youth climate influencer Sage Lenier, and more on the power of collective action to champion climate solutions. The broadcast concludes with a deep dive into climate obstructionist tactics with elected officials like Jamie Raskin, followed by a conversation focused on how fossil fuel interests play out at the local level with podcast producer Amy Westervelt, policy expert Matt Traldi, and author Katie Worth. 

BROADCAST 3 – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20 
Time: 1:00 – 2:30 PM ET  

The third and final broadcast answers the ‘Now What?” question. Learn how to stay engaged with Climate Reality after the training, mobilize your communities, and clarify your questions during the scientist Q&A session with renowned scientists Drs. Katharine Hayhoe and Marshall Shepherd. The broadcast concludes with Vice President Gore’s closing remarks and presentation of the Alfredo Sirkis Green Ring Award to an exceptional climate leader. 

ON DEMAND SKILL-BUILDING VIDEOS & WORKSHOPS 

Learn how to turn your climate knowledge into action with these skill-building learning videos and workshops on civic engagement, overcoming obstructionism, and protecting climate policy solutions. These are intended to be two-part sessions. In Part I, you will watch the skill overview video. In part II, you will get the opportunity to put the skills learned to practice in the interactive workshop. 
Watching three skill-building videos and attending one skill-building workshop is required to complete the training. Videos are approximately 20 minutes long.  Workshops are between 45-60 minutes long.

These optional hour-long sessions will serve as a space for networking with other future Climate Reality Leaders attending the training from the same geographic area or constituency.

MENTOR GROUP DISCUSSIONS 

Friday, October 18 

During this first mentor-led group session, attendees will have the opportunity to get to know each other, discuss what they have learned from Vice President Gore’s presentation, and ask questions about the training.

During this final mentor-led group session, attendees will discuss what they gained from the training and their plans for engaging with climate advocacy and Climate Reality in the future.
