(they/them) As digital community organizing manager, Jess helps to provide the tools and resources Climate Reality Leaders need to do the work they're passionate about. They are a recent graduate of Oberlin College, where they double-majored in Environmental Studies & East Asian Studies with a double-minor in Politics & History and a concentration in International Affairs. They spent their first three years in college working for Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL), where they helped to pioneer their current programs for students in Higher Education. They were among the first members of the Campus Leaders Program, which seeks to educate and empower students to become effective climate advocates and organizers in their communities. They founded the Oberlin College CCL Chapter, or OCEAL, and worked alongside other student environmental groups to create a powerful and cohesive climate movement on campus. They were hired as CCL's first Great Lakes Regional Fellow, where they managed a network of K-12 and college-level students and educators engaged in climate advocacy. They also coordinated research and organizing projects with CCL's education, diversity, and international teams. They then went on to serve as the Start-Up Coordinator for Senior Stewards Acting for the Environment (SSAFE), a network of retirement communities rallying around climate action. They were one of the 2021 Oberlin Shansi Fellows to Shanxi Agricultural University in Taigu, China, where they taught English through the lens of pressing social and environmental issues. Beyond their climate work, Jess is a musician, poet, certified mediator, and nationally and world-ranked equestrian in the Morgan Horse circuit.
